Penny Farthing - Northcote
Topping off an incredibly gluttonous weekend, we had breakfast at Penny Farthing Coffee Club on High Street in Northcote this morning. Mainly cos we were hungover, and mainly because we couldn’t be bothered cooking, but mainly because we’re fat pigs.
Can’t believe this was my first time there! Incredible food! Really nice staff! Good prices! We shared two brunchy breakfasts; as you can see, I couldn’t even wait to take a photo before tucking in. First up was a lovely pea & cress concoction with poached eggs on sourdough. nom nom nom. Really fresh and bright, good and healthy too which was nice since I wasn’t in a greasy mood. Next was an awesome little doozy from the specials board: rocket, ricotta, salmon, baked mushrooms and cherry tomatoes: DIVINITY. There were so many other things on the menu that I wanted.
Defo going back here soon!

Tried this place out Saturday morning on a friend’s recommendation and it was decent; really nice understated rustic type atmosphere and a nice waiting staff, though the highly-strung owner looked like he was coked off his head and had been up for three days. It also took forever for our food to come out. I had the Dukka Poached Eggs on silverbeer and it was really good; Pooky went for poached eggs with haloumi, spinach, avocado and extra hollandaise on the side. Bleaargh! Still, it was real good. Don’t think I’d be that bothered going back though.
